8 months!

It’s been 8 months since my last post. My life has been pretty busy since then with relationships, Masters degree’s, teaching and finally getting into the games industry.

I’m now a level designer working for a company based in the North of England called Eutechnyx. I’m sure you know how to use Google so I won’t go in to detail, but they are the creators of the latest Nascar 2011 game and other racing titles. I can’t say what I’m working on at the moment, but I am loving it.

Being at work has also inspired me to get back into some personal projects. I’ve gone back and improved two of my maps. I would like to do a few more but they seem to have been lost over the past year. I want to carry on a project that I started for teaching at Hull Uni as well as start preparing for an iPhone game.

Anyway, here is some of the new screenshots from my work.

BAM (BA)Hons in Games Design – First Class

My results took a while to come through, but I them today and was relieved that I got a First. Off to do a Masters in Games Design at Abertay in September, I’m being sponsered by the uni as well so I don’t have to pay course fee’s. Just need to sort out a loan for the next year and then hopefully I should get straight into the industry. Because it’s not what, but more who you know these days and this course has connections with studios such as Realtime worlds!

Tripod3D

I’ve just come across these guys over on the Epic Forums. Their work got buried pretty quickly so I missed it when they first posted their work but I’m glad I found it.

Have a look at their HD Video on here or on YouTube, you can also find out more about them from their site: http://www.tripod3d.com/

E3!

Just because I’m not officially working in the games industry yet, doesn’t mean I can’t get extremely excited for the upcoming E3. As we all know, it’s this weekend and I’m sure everyone has their own little thing they are excited the most about. For me, without a doubt, it’s Project Natal. I have no idea how successful it’s going to be, especially after last E3′s mishaps with the whole avatars shoe fiasco. Other then that though, there are games like Bulletstorm, Fable3, Civilization 5, GoW3 and a whole host of other games. Not only that, but I’m hoping there is going to be more hardware featured this year other than just plain old motion sensing or 3D technology. The Wii for one is still in the wrong generation in regards to graphics, it needs a BIG overhaul, and fast.

As a level designer, I’m going to be extremely interested in the eye candy though and this weekend I think I may just take a break from work to sit back and relax with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

Uni Over: Degree show tonight

So, uni is finally finished! I become a full time bum tomorrow, every day scouring for a job. I’ve also made the degree show website, it’s not brilliant but I didn’t have much time and I had a lot of my own stuff to be getting on with.

You can find the site here: http://hsad2010.com/

If you’re in the UK tonight, around East Yorkshire, we’re having our Degree show in Hull at the Hull School of Art and Design building near the Hull College Campus. Anyone is welcome to come and there is a free bar.

Final Major Project – Done

Picture unrelated!!

I’ve finished my final major project, all I have now is a degree show to attend, but all in all, my work is finished. I’ve already had two interviews at Codemasters which is just amazing, and I have another with Eurocom in two weeks time, result!

Anyway, for any of you stalkers out there that would be interested in looking through my blog through the year and my self evaluation (god knows why you would want to…), then you can find it here:

Trains of Light

I’ve decided to continue working on a project in my spare time, between working on Archasis and looking for a job. It’s a level I designed for my final major project, but never got round to finishing as other things got in the way, such as absorbing as much information regarding UDK as I could before I left uni.

Anyway, here’s a quick teaser:
